American Lung Association Wellness Hub
Over 34 million Americans live with lung diseases, many of which are chronic conditions. To support these individuals, the American Lung Association’s Patient & Caregiver Network (PCN) has introduced the Wellness Hub, providing educational resources and support communities aimed at enhancing their lives. The network and hub are free and offer a range of resources, including articles and videos, aimed at improving both physical and mental health. These resources feature medication videos, breathing techniques, recipes, and additional tools, all specifically tailored for those with lung disease.
Lung diseases such as asthma, COPD, and pulmonary fibrosis do not have a cure, requiring lifelong management. Such diagnoses can be daunting and isolating, making networks like the Wellness Hub essential for improving the quality of life for patients, caregivers, and families.
The primary objective of the hub is to enhance the daily lives of these individuals with trusted support tools rather than just information. Specifically, the project aims to provide content that aids individuals in developing improved mental and physical strength, a healthy mindset, or a regular breathwork routine.
The Wellness Hub includes a library of articles, videos, resources, and online classes, focusing on:
- Mindfulness practices for stress management
- Self-discovery exercises to foster resilience
- Partner-based activities for patients and caregivers to improve their relationship
- Nutrition guidance and recipes designed for lung disease management
- Gentle movement activities to promote overall health
- An educational lounge with patient stories, audio segments and articles, and doctor insights
The Wellness Hub also offers disease-specific online communities where individuals can connect with others facing similar challenges. These communities provide a space for shared experiences and mutual support. Additionally, the hub features on-demand and live webcasts that cover a range of topics related to lung health, providing valuable information at the convenience of the users. Lung disease management tools are available to help users track their symptoms, manage medications, and monitor their progress. Members can also stay informed with regularly scheduled e-newsletters that deliver the latest research, tips, and news directly to their inbox.
For those affected by lung cancer, the Wellness Hub provides dedicated support groups. These groups offer a critical opportunity for lung cancer patients and their families to connect with peers in person. This face-to-face interaction can significantly reduce stress levels and enhance coping strategies. By sharing their experiences and receiving support from others who understand their journey, participants can find comfort and encouragement. These groups are an essential resource for navigating the complex and often overwhelming path of lung cancer treatment and recovery.
At launch, the hub includes activities that are accessible to everyone. As the community grows, member feedback will guide the development of future content. This ensures that the Wellness Hub remains a dynamic and responsive resource for its users.
The American Lung Association’s Patient & Caregiver Network links individuals with lung diseases, such as lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis, COPD, and asthma, along with their caregivers, to a supportive community. Membership offers access to educational resources, support communities, and the latest research, including clinical trials.
