Abramson Cancer Center at Penn Medicine
The University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS) is a major healthcare provider in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is composed of several hospitals including the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Pennsylvania Hospital, Chester County Hospital, Lancaster General Hospital, and Princeton Medical Center.
The UPHS is home to the first hospital in the United States, the Pennsylvania Hospital. The Ruth and Raymond Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine is a specialized medical facility located on the campus of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
The $302-million project was completed in 2008 and serves as the largest capital project undertaken by the UPHS. The center includes the Abramson Cancer Center, radiation oncology, cardiovascular medicine, and an outpatient surgical pavilion. It also houses the Roberts Proton Therapy Center, which is the largest proton therapy center associated with a medical center in the world. This therapy center will be used by both the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the Penn Medicine to treat cancer patients.
