VA West Los Angeles Medical Center
The West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a medical facility located on land donated by Arcadia Bandini de Stearns Baker in 1887.
The facility was previously known as the Sawtelle Veterans Home and later as the Wadsworth Hospital, which was rebuilt in 1977. The center is intended to provide housing and services for homeless veterans, and in 2011, a group of veterans sued the center for allegedly renting land for commercial use instead of providing housing for veterans.
In 2015, as part of the settlement, the Department of Veterans Affairs released a draft master plan for the future of the campus which includes adding 1200 units of housing for homeless veterans. The center is also set to be connected to the LA Metro Purple Line extension, with a station opening in 2027.
