About Eric S. Lambright

Dr. Eric S. Lambright is an Associate Professor in the Department of Thoracic Surgery at Vanderbilt Clinic, Nashville, Tennessee. He holds the position of Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs and Chief Quality Officer and serves as the Surgical Director of the Lung Transplant Program. Dr. Lambright was born in Ghana, Africa, where his parents were working in a missionary hospital. He later grew up in Philadelphia, PA and completed his undergraduate education at Ursinus College, Magna Cum Laude in 1991. He then earned his medical degree, with Alpha Omega Alpha Honors, from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia in 1995.

He completed his residencies in General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, during which he also served as a research Fellow in the Thoracic Oncology Laboratory investigating cancer gene therapies for the treatment of malignant mesothelioma and lung cancer. He has been recognized for his teaching of medical students.

Dr. Lambright specializes in all aspects of general thoracic surgery with a focus on pulmonary malignancies, lung transplantation, lung failure surgery, and minimally invasive techniques such as thoracoscopic (VATS) procedures and transcervical approach for thymectomy. He has extensive experience with complex pulmonary resections including bronchoplastic and chest wall procedures. His research interests include novel therapies for chest malignancies.

Dr. Lambright joined the Vanderbilt University faculty in 2004 and also serves as the Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Nashville VA Hospital. He was named Surgical Director of Lung Transplantation in January 2007. Dr. Lambright is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
