About Jonathan Wesley Riess
Dr. Jonathan Wesley Riess is the Director of Thoracic Oncology and an Associate Professor of Medicine (Clin X) at UC Davis. He specializes in cancer, lung disease, and head and neck cancer and is part of the Internal Medicine department. Dr. Riess aims to provide exceptional clinical care by utilizing the latest advances in novel diagnostics, targeted therapies, and immunotherapy, while also focusing on symptom management and a holistic approach to patient care.
He is also the Medical Director of Thoracic Oncology and serves on the Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer/Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma/Thymomas and Thymic Carcinomas Panel for the National Comprehensive Cancer Network.
Dr. Riess' research interests include novel diagnostics, targeted therapies, and immunotherapies in lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies. He is a past recipient of the National Cancer Institute Cancer Clinical Investigator Team Leadership Award and the Addario Lung Cancer Foundation and Van Auken Foundation Young Innovators Team Award.
He completed his undergraduate education at Swarthmore College, earned his MD from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and holds a MS in Epidemiology and Clinical Research from Stanford University. He completed his internship, residency, and fellowship at UC San Francisco and Stanford University School of Medicine. He has received several honors including the Adi Gazdar Translational Research Lectureship Award and the NIH K12 Career Development Award.
