About Richard Berri
Dr. Richard Berri is a highly experienced surgical oncologist with over 10 years of experience treating patients in the Detroit metropolitan area and beyond. He currently holds several leadership positions, including Chief of Surgical Oncology, Medical Director of the Ascension Michigan Oncology service line, and Director of the Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) Program.
Dr. Berri received his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed his surgical oncology fellowship at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas in 2010. He also completed a residency and internship at Ascension St. John Hospital.
Dr. Berri specializes in treating all abdominal malignancies, including liver, pancreas, stomach, colorectal, bile duct, small bowel, appendix, and sarcomas in the abdomen. He has a particular interest in the surgical management of peritoneal cancer and created the first comprehensive HIPEC program in Michigan. He is also the founder of the JFW GI Cancer Program and is nationally recognized for his work in HIPEC. To date, Dr. Berri has performed over 400 Cytoreductive/HIPEC surgeries at Ascension St. John Hospital.
Dr. Berri is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology. He has published numerous articles on his work and offers a multidisciplinary, high-quality, patient-centered approach to his surgical care. He is affiliated with Ascension Michigan Macomb-Oakland Hospital and Ascension Michigan St. John Hospital, and is certified by the American Board of Surgery.
