About Salila S. Hashmi

Dr. Salila Hashmi is a surgical oncologist who specializes in treating liver, pancreatic and gallbladder cancer. She joined the Division of Surgical Oncology at the UAB Department of Surgery in November 2021.

Dr. Hashmi has a diverse educational and professional background, having earned her medical degree from the Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan. She then completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in Transplant Immunology at the Emory Transplant Center in Atlanta, GA, followed by a General Surgery residency and Surgical Critical Care fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine.

After graduating from Emory, she moved to Canada where she completed a dual-certified fellowship in Complex General Surgical Oncology and Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery at the University of Calgary in Alberta. Dr. Hashmi is certified by the American Board of Surgery, the Surgical Critical Care - American Board of Surgery, and the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (AHPBA) Fellowship.
