About Sean Dineen

Dr. Sean Dineen is a specialist in the field of Gastrointestinal Oncology and is currently an Assistant Member of the Department of Gastrointestinal Oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center. He is particularly interested in treating patients with metastatic disease, specifically those with carcinomatosis and peritoneal spread of disease.

He has expertise in the use of heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) for the treatment of advanced disease. His research focuses on understanding the interactions between the tumor and the local environment in promoting metastatic disease.

Dr. Dineen is originally from Lexington, KY and earned his medical degree from the University of Louisville. He completed his residency in general surgery at UT Southwestern in Dallas and had a research fellowship focused on the tumor microenvironment. He later finished a fellowship in Complex General Surgical Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he received the Clinical Excellence award from the Department of Surgery.

Before joining Moffitt Cancer Center, he was the Medical Director of the Multidisciplinary Clinic at Markey Cancer Center, University of Kentucky. He has a strong publication record and has presented his work on GI and peritoneal diseases both nationally and internationally. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (AHPBA) and the Society for Surgeons of the Alimentary Tract (SSAT).
