About Seth Force
Dr. Seth D. Force is a renowned thoracic surgeon with a focus on outcomes in lung transplantation and thoracic diseases. He holds the title of Kamal A. Mansour Professor in Thoracic Surgery, and is a part of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Department of Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine. He is also the Surgical Director of the Thoracic Oncology Program and Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.
Dr. Force worked with Dr. Joel Cooper, who performed the first successful lung transplant, during his fellowship at Barnes Hospital at Washington University School of Medicine. Since 2003, as the surgical director of Emory's adult lung transplant program, Dr. Force has improved the program's transplant survival rates and increased transplant volume to 30 transplants annually.
Dr. Force earned his medical degree at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He then completed his fellowship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St Louis, Missouri.
He has been recognized as one of Atlanta Magazine's "Top Doctors" from 2009-2012, 2015-2018, 2020, 2022 and as one of America's Top Surgeons by the Consumers' Research Council of America in 2010. He has also received the Thoracic Surgery Teacher of the Year Award from Emory University School of Medicine in 2010 and was a part of Woodruff Leadership Academy in 2008.
